Adolescent Programs

Adolescence is a particularly challenging and difficult time for both teens and their parents. It is also a time when teens are particularly vulnerable to the misuse of alcohol and other drugs. At KBA, we understand the frightening and vulnerable mix of teens and substance use. Adolescents have needs that are significantly different from adults, and KBA has specially developed services and specially trained therapists to address these needs.

Crash Course

Using experiential learning, this daylong program impacts teenagers under age 18 that have shown risk-taking behaviors such as alcohol use, drug use, or reckless driving. Participants and their parent(s) are taken through several real life experiences and will hear directly from law enforcement, emergency room staff, and funeral home personnel. The program includes first hand accounts of tragic accidents and overdoses including one father’s heartbreaking loss of his son through a drunk driving accident. Upon conclusion, participants are asked to reconsider their substance use and/or reckless behavior.

The purpose of Insight is to encourage participants to look at how their use of chemicals is affecting their lives and to encourage actions to stop using and remain drug-free. The program will provide education, encourage self-assessment, and teach skills to avoid future use. Insight is offered at the school, either during the school day, after school, or on a Saturday. The program format is flexible in order to meet each school’s needs.

Adolescent Substance Abuse Group: Individual Intake, 10 Groups, Exit Interview

This therapeutic group targets adolescents who show signs of problematic substance use. Adolescents will attend an initial intake with at least one parent or guardian prior to starting group. While in group, participants will take an in-depth and personal look at their relationships with substances and the related consequences. Participants will gain education, support, and skills to prevent relapse and remain substance-free. During the exit interview, additional resources will be recommended as needed to support the ongoing health and well-being of participants.
