WARP Overview

The Washtenaw Alcohol Reduction Project [WARP] seeks to reduce the incidence of underage drinking in western Washtenaw County and adult binge drinking throughout the county. Western Washtenaw County was identified as a priority geographic area based on the presence of several community-level attributes and environmental factors that facilitate underage drinking. Using evidence-based interventions, WARP directly targets the rural communities of Chelsea, Dexter, and Manchester to achieve changes in the public policies and in the practices of major community institutions to effectively limit the accessibility of alcohol to teens. This, in turn, directly reduces teen drinking and communicates a clear social norm that underage drinking is inappropriate and unacceptable.

WARP has begun an intensive awareness campaign for all Washtenaw County residents. The campaign’s objective is to increase awareness of binge drinking/problem drinking in order to reduce the rates of adult binge drinking and the related consequences.

This programs is made possible through funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse & Addiction Services and the Washtenaw Community Health Organization.

If you are interested in becoming a part of WARP or would like to join your local coalition please send an e-mail to info@kbamichigan.com or call 810.225.9550.
